Study: Celebrex At Morning or Night Effective Against Osteoarthritis

Celebrex® (celecoxib) is effective against osteoarthritis whether taken in the morning or evening, according to a study reported in the February 3 on-line edition of the journal Rheumatology.

The study involved 697 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip who received either a 200-milligram once daily dose of celecoxib in the morning or evening or a 100-milligram twice daily dose in the morning and evening. Celebrex is a COX-2 specific inhibitor.

Researchers at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark evaluated the different doses of the drug after 12 weeks of treatment by how satisfied the patients were with the level of pain relief and and their improvement in ability to walk or bend.

Regardless of the time of day at which the dose or doses of celecoxib were administered, the researchers found that patients were equally satisfied with the outcomes. There were also no differences in adverse events reported between the various dosing regimens.
