Dr. John H. Klippel Chosen to Lead Arthritis Foundation

Dr. John H. Klippel will become the Arthritis Foundation's new president and CEO effective November 1.

Klippel has served as medical director of the Arthritis Foundation since 1999 and has more than 30 years of experience in rheumatology and medical research related to arthritis.

"The Arthritis Foundation is here to improve lives through the prevention, control and cure of arthritis," said Klippel. "As the new president and CEO, I look forward to strengthening the role of the foundation in improving the lives of people with arthritis through public health programs and the tremendous potential for major research breakthroughs."

Klippel becomes CEO of the organization at a time when arthritis is growing at an alarming rate, generating increasing demands for research progress, information and a public health response. Meanwhile, funding for nonprofit efforts has declined due to the economy and other factors.

Klippel said he will work closely with the organization's board of trustees to provide long-range planning and direction, as well as lead the Atlanta-based National Office of the organization.

Before joining the Arthritis Foundation, Klippel served as clinical
director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Klippel has also authored numerous scientific and clinical publications, and is a frequent presenter at conferences and meetings worldwide. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, board-certified in rheumatology, and a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology.
