New Book Provides Suggestions for Arthritis Back Pain

The Arthritis Foundation has announced the publication of a new book, "All You Need to Know About Back Pain: Beat Pain, Increase Your Mobility, Know Your Options."

The book is a comprehensive resource to help the 50 to 80 percent of Americans who suffer from back pain to ease and even prevent their discomfort.

"Back pain is an enormous problem worldwide affecting millions of people each day," said Dr. John Klippel, medical director of the Arthritis Foundation. "Arthritis is a common cause of back pain and an early diagnosis is crucial to avoid further disability down the line. Luckily, there are some very simple, do-at-home solutions that can not only ease pain, but also prevent future loss of mobility."

The book explains the causes and diagnosis of back pain and how to work with a healthcare provider to treat the condition. "All You Need to Know About Back Pain" also discusses drugs, surgical remedies and alternative approaches to treating back pain.

"As the population ages, the incidence of arthritis in the United States will increase from one in six to one in five by 2020. Many people see arthritis as something they cannot control -- but that's not true," said Klippel. "In fact, with back pain as with many forms of arthritis, there is much that people can do to ease their pain and prevent further problems. With this book, the Arthritis Foundation gives people information on how they can take action."
