Researchers Stop Early Arthritis Inflammation in Mice Trial

Researchers in Australia have developed a drug that has stopped the early development of inflammation in mice with rheumatoid arthritis.

Existing therapies for rheumatoid arthritis only treat the symptoms and are costly. The drug, VIB 153, will be tested in clinical trials on humans in 2003.

Prima Biomed, who funded the research, is in negotiations with an international pharmaceutical company to license the drug.
